Full Version: Why do I get different results with AstianGO than with Google?

One of two things may be causing you to receive different AstianGO results than what you would receive from Google.

The first may involve Google's tailored search feature. Google keeps a record of all of your interests, based on things you write about in your Gmail account, things you search for on their search engine, and other Google services you use. They use this information to choose what search results they believe you are actually looking for based. The results you receive will be correspondingly less neutral, being that have been personalized. (You can find more about this so called "filter bubble" in this Support Center article.)

AstianGO does not do this. AstianGO acts as an intermediary between you and Bing, so your searches are completely private. AstianGO submits your query to Bing anonymously, then returns Bing results to you privately. Bing never sees you and does not know who made the request, seeing only AstianGO. Since Bing can't determine your interests based on your past search history, you receive a standard set search results, rather than Bing's "personalized" results. This is one of the reasons why AstianGO results are different from other search engines such as Google, Bing and others.

The other possibility is that Bing may occasionally provide different results to AstianGO than to its direct users. Because we act as an intermediary between you and Bing, we are dependent on the results Bing sends to us. We do not modify these results in any way, but deliver them to you exactly as Bing delivers them to us. Sometimes we get slightly different results, but in general, they are of the same high quality.
